How Much Does a Car Valet Cost in Cheltenham?
For a small car, a professional valet in Cheltenham usually costs somewhere between £25 and £50, depending on how much work the car actually needs. Larger vehicles cost more, and vans or MPVs are typically quoted individually rather than off a fixed list. That’s the honest range, but it’s not a very useful answer on its own, because the number that matters is the one that applies to your car, not the average of everyone’s.
So here’s what actually moves that price up or down, and what it looks like with real figures rather than vague estimates.
What changes the price
Three things do most of the work: the size of the vehicle, its current condition, and which level of valet you’re booking.
Size is the simplest to explain. A hatchback takes less time to wash, dry and clean inside than a 7-seater or a van, so pricing is almost always banded by vehicle size rather than charged as a flat rate. We use four bands: small (hatchbacks, small saloons or coupes), medium (exec saloons, estates, or small SUVs), large (standard SUVs or large saloons), and van/MPV, which is priced on request because the range between a small van and a big one is too wide for a single figure to mean much.
Condition is less predictable but often has a bigger effect on the final price than size does. A car that’s been kept reasonably clean will cost less to bring back up to standard than one that hasn’t seen a proper valet in a year. Heavy contamination, deeply set-in dirt, or an interior that needs more than a quick vacuum all add time, and time is what you’re paying for.
Then there’s the tier itself. A quick upkeep wash and a full interior-and-exterior valet are different amounts of work, so they’re priced differently. This is where “how much does a valet cost” stops being one question and becomes two: what does a basic wash cost, and what does a proper valet cost.
Ascnd Detailing’s current pricing
Rather than talk in generalities, here’s what we actually charge, because published pricing is something we think should be the default in this trade rather than the exception.
| Tier | Small | Medium | Large | Van / MPV |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Regular Valet | from £40 | from £45 | from £50 | on request |
| Full Valet | from £50 | from £60 | from £70 | on request |
| Paint Decontamination | from £25 | from £30 | from £40 | on request |
The Regular Valet is a wash-focused upkeep visit: pre-wash, a safe contact wash, tyres, wheels and arches cleaned, windows, carpets and floor mats hoovered, the dashboard and centre console cleaned, and a premium wax finish applied and hand dried. It’s built for cars that are already in reasonable order and just need keeping that way, and we’d recommend it roughly monthly for most owners.
The Full Valet goes further into the interior. On top of everything in the Regular Valet, it includes leather cleaned and conditioned, doors and door shuts cleaned (a part a regular wash usually misses), floor mats treated with proper extraction, and cloth seats extracted rather than just hoovered. It’s the one we’d suggest every few months, or any time a car needs more than a surface refresh.
Paint Decontamination is a newer addition and sits apart from the two valets: it’s a chemical and clay decontamination of the paintwork itself, aimed at removing bonded contamination a wash can’t touch, and it’s the sensible step before a wax, sealant, or coating goes on. The full breakdown for each tier is on the services and pricing page, including what’s included at every size band.
Extras that sit outside the standard price
Not everything fits neatly into a tier. Stain removal and pet hair removal are priced individually once we’ve actually seen the car, because the amount of work involved varies enormously between “a bit of dog hair on the back seat” and “an interior that’s clearly had a dog living in it for two years.” As a rough guide, stain removal currently starts around £10 to £20 and pet hair removal around £5 to £20. Headlight restoration is priced more simply, at £20 per lamp, since that’s a job where the unit of work is genuinely fixed. None of these are numbers we’ll quote completely blind, though. If a quote you’re comparing doesn’t leave room for this kind of variation, it’s worth asking what happens if your car turns out to need more than average.
Why membership pricing works out cheaper
If a car’s going to be valeted regularly rather than as a one-off, the maths changes. Once a car’s had its first Full Valet, it’s eligible for our no-contract Maintenance Membership, which currently works out around £5 cheaper per visit than the one-off Regular Valet rate, across every priced size band, on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly schedule. There’s no fixed-term contract attached to it. The saving isn’t huge on any single visit, but it adds up over a year of regular upkeep, and it means one call sets the schedule rather than booking each visit separately.
What’s actually worth checking when you compare quotes
A few things are more useful to ask than “how much is a valet,” because that question alone doesn’t tell you what you’re being quoted for.
Is the price based on your specific vehicle size, or a guess over the phone? Is it a fixed figure, or will it change once they see the car, and if so, by how much? Does the quote include the interior, or just the exterior wash? And is the pricing published somewhere you can check it yourself before you ask, rather than something you only find out by getting in touch?
None of these questions are about finding the cheapest option. They’re about finding a quote that actually means something, rather than a number that changes once the work starts.
Frequently asked questions
Does the price change once you see the car?
It can, but only within the range that’s already published. A car that’s more contaminated or hasn’t been cleaned in a while may sit toward the top of its size band’s range rather than the bottom, and we’ll always confirm the exact price before starting, not after.
Is a mobile valet more expensive than a drive-in car wash?
Usually yes, because the two aren’t doing the same job. A drive-in wash is a quick exterior rinse; a proper valet includes a full contact wash, wheel and tyre care, and interior work, done at your home or workplace rather than you driving to a site and waiting around.
Do I need to book the Full Valet before I can get membership pricing?
Yes. Membership visits are gated behind an initial Full Valet, which brings the car up to a consistent baseline that the regular visits then maintain.
