What's Included in a Full Valet? A Realistic Breakdown
“Full valet” isn’t a regulated term. There’s no industry standard that says what has to be included for a business to call something a full valet rather than a wash, which means the same two words can mean quite different amounts of work depending on who’s offering it. That’s not a criticism of the trade, it’s just worth knowing before you book one based on the name alone.
So here’s what it actually means at Ascnd Detailing, specifically, and how to judge whether it’s the level your car needs.
What’s in it
A Full Valet includes everything from our Regular Valet as its base: pre-wash, a safe contact wash, tyres, wheels and arches cleaned, windows cleaned inside and out, and a premium wax finish. On top of that, it adds:
- Leather cleaned and conditioned
- Doors and door shuts cleaned, which a standard wash almost always skips
- Floor mats treated with proper extraction, not just a hoover
- Cloth seats extracted
- Interior trim protection
It takes roughly two to two and a half hours, against 75 to 90 minutes for the Regular Valet, and that extra time is mostly interior work rather than anything different happening outside. The exterior wash process is the same; what changes is how much attention the inside gets.
How it’s different from a regular wash, in practice
The clearest way to think about the difference is what each one is designed to maintain versus reset. A Regular Valet, done roughly monthly, keeps a car that’s already in decent order looking that way. It’s upkeep. A Full Valet is closer to a reset: it’s suited to a car that’s gone longer without attention, has picked up more dirt than a quick wash will shift, or just needs a more thorough pass through the interior. We’d generally suggest one every few months, or any time a car needs more than a surface refresh rather than routine upkeep.
Door shuts are a small but genuinely telling example of the difference. They’re one of the most commonly missed areas in a standard wash, because they’re not visible from the outside and don’t get touched by a quick vacuum. Cleaning them properly is part of what “full” is meant to signal in the name.
What it doesn’t include
To be clear about the edges of it: a Full Valet doesn’t include machine polishing, paint correction, engine bay detailing, or ceramic coating. We’re not currently offering those as a standard package. What it doesn’t include either, but is available as its own separate service, is Paint Decontamination: a chemical and clay treatment that lifts bonded contamination out of the paintwork, which a wash on its own can’t do. It’s worth booking on its own or alongside a valet if the paint feels rough to the touch even after washing, but it’s a different job from the interior-focused work a Full Valet covers.
What’s actually worth checking on any valet menu
A few questions are more useful than the name of the package on its own. Is pricing shown by vehicle size, or a flat rate regardless of what you drive? Does “full” actually include the interior trim and door shuts, or just a more thorough exterior wash? Is leather or cloth seat cleaning included, or is that an extra? None of these have a universally right answer, but knowing which side of the line a quote falls on before you book means you’re not left guessing on the day.
When the Regular Valet is enough
Not every car needs a Full Valet every time, and there’s no reason to pay for interior work a car doesn’t need yet. If it’s had a Full Valet recently and just needs keeping on top of, the Regular Valet does that job at a lower price and in less time. The two valet tiers are meant to work together: one resets and deep-cleans, the other maintains it in between.
If a car’s going in for regular attention rather than the occasional one-off, it’s also worth knowing that a Full Valet is what unlocks membership pricing: once a car’s had that initial full clean, it becomes eligible for ongoing visits at a discounted rate, on a schedule that suits how the car’s actually used.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a Full Valet actually take?
Around two to two and a half hours, depending on the vehicle’s size and how much work the interior needs.
Does a Full Valet include the engine bay?
No, not currently. It covers the full exterior wash and a thorough interior clean, but engine bay detailing isn’t part of the standard package.
Can I book a Full Valet without committing to ongoing visits?
Yes, it’s available as a one-off. It’s also the visit that brings a car up to the baseline needed to start membership pricing, but there’s no obligation to continue afterwards.
